In March, my family came all the way over from the UK to visit me! I was so happy! We stayed in Kyoto for over two weeks. As we were in Kyoto, the first place I decided to take them had to be Fushimi Inari Taisha.
This was actually the third time I'd been there, the first time I went with my boyfriend and then his family when they came. It's still impressive, and like I said before, it's a must do for a reason.
We managed to do the walk up Mount Inari again, and the view really is impressive. A little tough (if you're as lazy as I am) but I've been dragged up three times so anyone can do it I think. Everyone I've been with has said that the bamboo forest and the quieter walk was their favourite bit, so it really does pay to go off the beaten path a little. Even though it's full of tourists, turn off the main loop and it suddenly becomes really peaceful.
All in all, I think Fushimi Inari Taisha was the perfect first day! The 1,000 Torii are so impressive and the view over Kyoto is a great touch too.
For more info on how to get there, the first post I wrote about Fushimi Inari Taisha has more information ^^
