End of February/ beginning of March was plum blossom season in Japan, so me and my friends high-tailed it to Osaka castle to check out the grounds and (finally) go into the castle! We were a teeny bit early, but the plum trees looked great!
How to get there
You can get to the castle pretty easily on the JR Osaka Loop line, and there is a stop for Osaka castle, so you really can't miss it.
The grounds are free to enter, but the castle costs 600 yen to get in.
The castle grounds' plum blossom is gorgeous, and the Sakura are also meant to be well worth a look.
I had a plum flavoured ice cream, and walked around the grounds for a bit, and then we went into the castle. I believe Osaka castle is the largest castle in Japan, but it's a concrete reconstruction. Inside is a large museum, and you get a fantastic view of the city. If you're after a more authentic castle, I'd recommend Himeji or Hikone castles.
Osaka castle is still well worth a visit though, especially in Spring. I'm really glad I went~
Thanks for reading!
